Godown on the West Praya at Kennedy Town was nearly totally demolished and so were also Messrs. Jebsen and Company's three-storey Godown and adjacent one-storey building in Chater Street. Considerable damage was done to the roofs and verandahs of houses throughout the Western District.
On the Peak the roofs of several houses were more or less stripped of their tiles and in most residences there were small damages to roofs, windows, shutters, enclosures, etc.
No loss of lives due to collapsing buildings were reported from the City or Hill Districts.
As regards other places on the Island considerable injury to privately owned buildings was reported from Quarry Bay where Messrs. Butterfield and Swire had 12 wooden sheds with tiled roofs blown down and their other buildings injured. The fall of one of the sheds involved the loss of six lives and injuries to six other men. At Shaukiwan the roofs of most of the houses were damaged. A brick wall blown down at Aberdeen accounted for the death of 1 woman.
